Seir’s enterprise is to disturb expectations – stepping back from the accidents which occur between us and each successive reading of the work, (denying any easy simultaneity). He is on an anti-Quest to reveal the imperfect. In equating two worlds (design and art, kitch and function – those traditional ‘either/ors’) he exposes their disjunction in a poetry of misunderstandings.
The colours repel and attract – engage an unconscious (consumerist?) glee and set off our critical alarm bells. The titles suggest inappropriate associations, yet it’s impossible to put your finger on the exact transgression. Seir’s work provokes enormous delight as well as my great respect – they come close to being deeply immoral works.
