For several years Jo Longhurst has been photographing dogs with a particular focus on their breeding and lineage. Anthropomorphism therefore is not the issue. In these elegantly posed photographs the dogs have been promoted from symbol, allegory or accessory to become the subject itself. Mute as they are, the dogs remain inscrutable, free from easy psychologising.

Jo Longhurst will also be exhibiting this year in the Folkwang Museum, Essen,Germany and at the Rencontre d'Arles, France and is currently working on herPhD at the Royal College of Art, London.
