studio 1.1 is pleased to open its doors for 'Year of the Unknown', an exhibition exploring the insignificant, forgotten and obscure. Drawn together through mutual interests In landscape, each artist's work shows their personal response to the 'unknown event', both undiscovered and little known, misunderstood or unremarkable.
Olivia Dixon's work deals with the impulsive mind. Travelling to unplanned destinations she records the surfacing of the unconscious thought and serendipitous movement. Creating marks and objects from 'mistakes', individual elements appear chaotic, but when brought together form equilibrium.
Paintings of Charles E J Downman compose an imaginative representation of unachievable dreams. Romantic extra-terrestrial landscapes which echo tales of Buckminster Fuller's geodesic spheres, and the shrouded lives and deaths of the cold war cosmonauts.
Issi Nash evokes philosophies of the sublime. Investigating the building blocks of our being, the unseen reactions of both the micro and macro-verse.
Our fragile existence is often over shadowed by humanity's arrogance. Laurie Ramsell's work rekindles an appreciation for the delicate balance we never realise, but as a species are destroying with our actions.
Perceptions of the individual are the cornerstone of Minami Wrigley’s projects, which involve personal journeys to new territories. Memory is not always true to reality, but its interpretation is a subjective process creating a personality.
