EDWARD TODD in ’30 Artists 30 Days’

“While both the subject and style may seem disparate, there is a pre-occupation with belief systems which runs throughout my work; most obviously through references to unorthadox religious or quasi-religious groups such as mormonism and scientology, but also in the totemic creature-constructs which appear in my models, paintings, and drawings. These totemic objects suggest an animistic or folk-religion, and imply a desire for the structured clarity of this type of belief. In presenting such self-contained belief systems in the context of an open-ended artwork, I hope, a tension is created.”
